Can-do 101

The Invitation

Bernard took a cell phone and a cheap tripod and set up in front of the Chicago Theater to film an invite for Oprah and Gayle. He recorded that he would love to have them at his United States debut—his concert on June 6—and that he was saving them two seats right by his belly button as printed on his t-shirt.

Did the video invite work?

It did! Gayle came to meet Bernard on the street in front of the Chicago Theater as he was selling tickets. The shock on his face was priceless. Gayle told Bernard that he could make his United States debut the following week on the Oprah show.

Our Can-do-et

I had been speaking to audiences about the power of innovation and change. Bernard’s example of innovation on a shoestring fit beautifully. We went together like peanut butter and jelly. So, I invited Bernard to join me on stage—to begin his speaking career. We took his story and coupled it with my innovation expertise and created a keynote speech for large audiences. We hit the road. Winnipeg, Canada, Las Vegas, New York, and Orlando.
